| Dear
Cathy and Pickett County Humane Society,
After
losing our much loved chocolate lab a year ago, we decided
it was time for another dog. With much discussion we decided
that adopting a lab from a rescue organization was something
we really wanted to pursue. Ironically, or by fate, we met
a woman near our home town that dealt with Pickett County
Humane Society and Auntie Cathy. Earlier in the summer we
received a picture and description of a yellow lab named Marley
that was available from Pickett County. Realizing that June
was not the best time to bring a dog into our lives due to
our hectic summer schedule, we put off pursuing a dog until
this fall. After re-searching the many, many rescue web sites
we came back to Marley and Pickett County Humane Society.
Luckily, or fate once more, showed us that Marley was still
available. After sending in the paperwork and having a home
visit, we were told that our application was approved. Within
3 weeks of sending in the application Marley was on her way
north. We picked her up in Connecticut on our youngest son's
birthday, again we're thinking this was fate. Now Emma (formerly
Marley) is safe and sound at her new home in Vermont. She
is such a wonderful dog. She definitely has a gentle soul.
We are so happy and fortunate to have her as part of our family.
Our two cats are getting used to having another dog in the
house. We are so glad that we decided to get a dog through
your organization. It is very obvious that these animals are
well cared for. We were also very impressed with the transport
service. We could tell that Kyle and the others care a great
deal about these animals as well. We are highly recommending
to any one that is serious about getting a dog to look into
saving a rescued dog. Especially one that is rescued by Pickett
County Humane Society.
Sincerely,
Gary

| When
we lost our beloved Austi to bone cancer, we knew it would be
hard to "replace" him. We knew the breed of dog we
wanted and while searching on the web, we found one that fit.
He was an 8 month old Newfie/Lab mix. Our joy turned to disappointment
when we saw that he was located in Tennessee. We live in Vermont
and there was no way for us to travel that far. Well, I decide
to inquire anyway. I made a phone call to the Picket County
Humane Society and spoke with the President. She told me about
the dog we were interested in and answered all my questions.
I was so impressed with her honesty, and could tell she genuinely
cared about these animal. I told her we wanted to adopt this
dog but doing so would be impossible because of the distance
we would have to travel. That is when she informed me that they
do the traveling for you. "you mean you bring the dog to
me?" That's right! Well again, we had a budget and I thought
the expense would be out of reach for us. Not true! The transfer
fee was so reasonable, I hung up the phone and cried. When we
met the the transfer, the people were so nice and professional.
We met our new family member and he was everything they said
he would be. We had been through some trial and error with the
local shelters and I found the Picket County Humane Society
in Tennessee to be far more genuine, considerate, and honest
than all of them. Sometimes we think our options are limited
to our own area but I would encourage everyone to branch out
and search for what you really want for a pet. Don't just settle
for what the local shelter is offering. We are so glad we didn't.

| In
February 2006, my family and I found Ike (the dog) on the internet
and knew he belonged in our family. Pickett County, Tennessee,
seemed a bit far from Pennsylvania to be adopting a dog. I had
a lot of questions and concerns about adopting out of state,
so I sent numerous e-mails. They replied to everyone. Not only
did they answer all my questions, they also e-mailed me pictures.
The people at the Pickett County Humane Society, are friendly,
big hearted people. They strive to find safe, happy homes for
the animals no matter what state it may be in. Ike arrived on
a professional animal transport, which was safe, and inexpensive.
Adopting Ike turned out to be a great experience. We gained
new friends in Tennessee, found the perfect companion and rescued
a dog in need.

A
year ago this past October my daughter came to visit for a
few weeks. I think she saw what I didn't want to see for myself.
My two old dogs were losing ground fast. She insisted that
I needed to get another dog right away. We got on-line and
looked at dozens of homeless dogs. One in particular caught
my eye. She was a little brown puppy that happened to be in
foster care with the Pickett County Humane Society in Byrdstown,
Tenn. I e-mailed Cathy Crockett, the lady in charge, and asked
for an application. When she received it, Cathy did a thorough
job of checking me out. She called my vet to be certain I
took care of the veterinary needs of my animals. She did a
lengthy phone interview with me to be sure I was prepared
to deal with Annie's breed, and that Annie would have a safe,
happy, healthy home here in Oregon. She was concerned that
Annie would have a fenced yard and proper shelter. I was very
impressed with how much Cathy cares about her job of finding
good homes for the animals in her facility. She has one of
the hardest jobs I can imagine, and she is good at it. When
the decision was made and it was decided that I should have
Annie, Cathy and Margo (Annie's foster mom) did everything
in their power to help us with the difficult task of getting
Annie from Tennessee to Oregon. They had to make two long
trips starting very early in the morning to get Annie to the
airport. On the first attempt they had to take her back home
with them because of bad weather at one of the layover airports.
But my daughter and I were finally able to meet Annie's plane
at the Portland Airport on Dec. 9, 2005. It was love at first
sight!!! Since then I have stayed in touch with both Cathy
and Margo. It's fun to keep them updated on Annie's antics.
They seem like old friends to me. They are a couple of awesome
ladies doing an awesome job.

Through
the cooperative efforts of petfinder.com/Beaglesetc and the
Pickett County Humane Society we were able to adopt a wonderful
young lady by the name of Freckles. We found Freckles' picture
on the website and with a few simple emails we were put in
touch directly with Freckles' adoptive mother, Cathy Crockett.
Through emails with Cathy, we were able to really get to know
Freckles. Cathy was very honest and upfront about Freckles'
personality and demeanor which helped us tremendously in determining
whether we would be the right home for her. When we finally
met Freckles on December 2nd she was everything we were told
she was, absolutely no surprises. In our opinion this type
of honesty is a direct reflection of how dedicated the Pickett
County Humane Society is to finding the right home for each
animal. Thank you Cathy for our newest family member, we look
forward to many years of happiness together.

My
now ex-husband didn't want ANY animals inside the house. He
liked animals just not in the house. I dealt with the "missing
piece" for 7 months. I couldn't take it anymore. I looked
on the internet and almost immediately found Holly. She had
been left in the cold just before the holidays 2004. Some
one found her curled up on thier door step. Those people couldn't
keep her so they did the right thing and called the Humane
Society. Cathy took her to her home and she recieved the love
and attention she needed. But as a wonderful foster mom Cathy
put Holly up for adoption. I found her on Petfinder.com in
Feburary. Cathy and I talked and set up a meeting. When I
arrived, Holly came bouncing out of the car and immediately
came to me and started giving me kisses. After meeting for
only a short time, Cathy surprised me by asking if I wanted
to take her home today. I know my eyes grew as big as saucers
as I said "Can I?" We filled out the paper work
and off we went to Holly's new home. I did decide to alter
her name for personal reasons. When Molly and I arrived home
my ex was not too happy, but he got over it. Now two years
later Molly and I live with my boyfriend and his house dog
(a Min-Pin named Jonah). Molly and Jonah are BEST friends.
I'm so glad I was able to adopt Molly. And I'd do it again
in a heartbeat.

I
recently decided to consider adopting a dog online. At Petfinder.com,
I typed in the parameters of the qualities I was interested
in, and one of the first profiles that came up was for a dog
named Lady. Something about her photo captured me. I looked
at lots of other profiles, but kept coming back to Lady. I
emailed and quickly got a response. Every step of the process
was handled in a very professional manner. I was very impressed
by how thorough and conscientious everyone was. My dog was
delivered to me exactly on time, and in very good health.
She is every bit as wonderful as I sensed she was when I saw
her picture online. I cannot say enough about what a positive
experience I had in adopting my dog through Pickett County
Humane Society.

| We
had two beautiful babies already but while surfing the Internet
I seen a picture of Nikki. I just knew we had to have her join
our family but she was in Tennessee and we live in Wyoming.
I emailed Margo to learn more about Nikki and if it were even
possible. Margo and Cathy are just unbelievably caring and wonderful
people. They made us feel like we knew Nikki before we were
even able to get her. They checked us out - our vet, our town,
our house, our yard, etc. Nikki was flown into Denver and we
were so happy with our new addition. A few months later Margo
emailed me pictures of a new baby they had. It was again love
at first sight, we chose the name Molly and got to know her
personality (spoiled and fun). We brought her home too and everyday
thank God for Cathy and Margo. If it weren't for them these
two wonderful babies would not have had a chance. I cant
even begin to tell you how wonderful Margo, Cathy and the entire
group are. They really care about the animals AND the people
who adopt them. We stay in touch with emails and exchange pictures
often. The dogs came from such a caring environment that the
adjustment was easy. You can really tell a difference between
a dog that has known the type of love Cathy and Margo supply
and a dog that hasnt. We just bought a larger place with
acreage and have plans of adopting more babies for our family
and you can bet we will come to them first. So many shelters
say they care but will adopt to anyone that can pay the fee
and the dogs arent adjusted to a family environment.
Margo and Cathy are so honest and care so much. I would do anything
to help them succeed in their mission to care for the animals
in the way they do. More shelters need to follow their example.

I
recently lost my wonderful friend Zack to cancer. I had Zack
since he was only 2.5 weeks old. He will be in my heart forever.
After some time I started to browse the internet looking for
a new friend. One of my co-workers sent to me the PICKETT
COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY site where I found the most perfect
young friend, my Jasmine. She came as a gift in to my life
and her presence is a great joy. I will never forget how overwhelming
the moment that I saw Jasmine for the first time was. I encourage
others to do the same because there are still so many wonderful
loving dogs out there waiting for a loving home. Thank you,
to everyone for giving me the opportunity to have Jasmine
as my special friend.

In
June, 2007, my son rescued a puppy. It was soon realized that
Diesel needed a companion for his loneliness. While searching
on Petfinder, we saw Zena, a female puppy, that we fell in
love with at first sight. We contacted Cathy at Pickett County
Humane Society, who was a delight to work with. Cathy is very
conscientious concerning the placement of the animals needing
a loving home. Cathy was very helpful in sending us additional
photos. Cathy was very prompt in responding to all of our
questions by e-mail. Once my son passed the home visit, Cathy
was very accomodating in driving the puppy approximately 3
hrs. to our town. It has been a wonderful experience working
with Pickett County Humane Society. We appreciate the dedication
Cathy and others have to provide loving homes for neglected
animals. My son's two puppies now are GREAT friends. They
act like a cute, married couple in love.

Given
the opportunity to adopt a wonderul dog from Pickett Paws,
we could not be more pleased! The director's attention to
screening, answering questions, arranging safe and timely
transport, and providing follow-up support, has all added
up to make our experience of an out-of-state adoption a remarkable
and most satisfying experience. Cathy REALLY cares about these
great dogs and we all should applaud her efforts. We will
likely be repeat customers! Thank you so much for the great
dog..and newfound lifetime friend!

Dear
Cathy,
This is a note to say how happy I am with the whole process
of adopting a dog from you and the Pickett County Humane Society...
It started off as a normal search of dogs who are in need
of a home and then I saw him..... I just knew he was the one...
I contacted Cathy and had an application out to her in a day.
Her response is amazing... I send her
emails and I get a reply back before I am even off the computer.
I don't know how she does it. Taking care of all those animals
and still being right there for you. She is an angel. She
set up my home visit and
within 3 days they were here and giving her a report.. Next
thing I knew I was the lucky one to rescue our new dog JR.
Cathy arranged the transportation and after he was all set
to go he was on his way to
Connecticut. The transportation was top notch also. I was
very impressed at how well they keep things organized. I picked
him up with my 7 year old son and it was great to see him
light up when JR was brought off the truck and given to me
to hold. JR is such a wonderful dog and without Cathy we would
have never met him. He is already so much a part of the family.
I am very happy we chose to adopt a rescue dog and especially
happy we choose Pickett County Humane Society. To everybody
looking at
adopting a dog... Do not hesitate to contact Cathy and Pickett
County Humane Society. The dogs are all well cared for and
distance does not matter... I am so thankful to you Cathy.
Keep up the great work that you do.
Sincerely,
The
Dobensky Family
