VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WITH P.A.W.S.

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Pickett County Humane Society. These positions are all very important to the PAWS Organization. They help to raise much needed funds to keep us in the business of helping our neighbors with spaying and neutering animals, aiding animals with medical attention and finding homeless animals a good home.

HERE ARE THE POSITIONS WE ARE IN NEED OF FILLING AND THE APPROXIMATE AMOUNT OF VOLUNTEER TIME NEEDED

ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE:
Time required: 1 Hour every two weeks
Job Description: Would require a person to pick up aluminum cans from various local businesses and locations where cans are being collected. The cans are then taken to the holding area behind the Chamber of Commerce building.
Who would be good for this position: Someone with a pickup truck or van large enough to carry cans.

DELIVER CANS TO RECYCLE CENTER:
Time required:
Couple of hours once a month to take trailer to Livingston.
Job Description: Once monthly the cans would be taken to Livingston for recycling.
Who would be good for this position: Someone who has a vehicle that can pull a small trailer.

RECYCLE PROGRAM: Cell phones, Ink Jet Cartridges, Laser Cartridges, and Toner Cartridges.
Time required: 1 hour every two weeks plus approximately 1 hour per month.
Job Description: Pick up the above items at specific locations in Byrdstown. Approximately once a month you will mail them to the recycler.
Who would be good for this position: Someone who is organized and can keep records. You will be working with local businesses and try to create more business. Will need to establish good relationships.

TRANSPORTING ANIMALS:

Time required: As needed basis
Job Description: This volunteer position is on an as needed basis. But, anytime that someone can help would provide a huge relief to those who are already helping in this area. The more volunteers we have for this position, the less time one particular person would be called upon. Dogs are picked up from a local foster home and delivered to our local veterinarian for medical attention. When the animal is ready to be picked up from the vet, the animal would need to be delivered back to the foster home.
Who would be good for this position: Someone who has a vehicle that can transport our dogs.

PROVIDE CARE TO THE ANIMALS IN OUR FOSTER HOMES:

Time required: Flexible schedule. Whatever time you have to offer.
Job Description: This volunteer position requires someone who can provide assistance to a foster home and help provide the care needed to the animals. It involves providing water, feeding, walking, giving medicine, grooming and just simply socializing the animals so that they are ready for adoption.
Who would be good for this position: People that want to make a difference in an animal's life.

FUND RAISERS:
Time required: Time that you choose to offer when PAWS would hold a fundraisers.
Job Description: This could vary greatly, from coming up with ideas for raising funds to helping to prepare posters, distributing flyers, preparing the site of the fundraiser, manning the table/s, collecting money and making change, distributing informational material, cleaning up after the fundraiser.
Who would be good for this position: Someone who likes working with people.

FOSTER HOMES:
Time required: Depends on how many dogs you have.
Job Description: This volunteer position is for people who have very big hearts and can provide love, attention and comfortable accommodations to the animals in the care of PAWS. PAWS, has a very good fostering program and will cover all necessary expenses. Please contact Cathy Crockett at 931-864-8550 to discuss our program.
Who would be good for this position: This would be good for anyone that loves dogs and wants to help them begin their new lives.

ADMINISTRATION:
Time required: Attending one meeting each month and writing the minutes. Distributing the minutes out to all contacts via email. Responsible for emailing lost and found notices. Once daily, retrieving phone calls left on the business line, determining who should handle and then emailing this information to the contact to handle.
Job Description: Paperwork and computer work. Must have a computer with Internet access.
Who would be good for this position: Someone who would like to volunteer with the PAWS Organization and work from home.

EDUCATION: ADOPT A CLASSROOM
Time required: About 2 weeks in the spring to find enough contributors to furnish each participating classroom with a one-year gift subscription to Kind News.
What is the program? K- 6th grade students are provided with Kind News, an award-winning newspaper that incorporates humane and environmental lessons into articles and activities that can be used across the curriculum. The cost is $30 and includes a teacher's guide, 28 student copies of the newspaper, and a resource guide for the teacher. The teacher is free to incorporate the newspaper into her lesson plans any way she chooses.
Who would be good for this position: Someone who is willing and has the time to ask area businesses and citizens for their support for this program.
